Ukraine has for first time used French Mirage 2000 fighter jets for air defense

On February 6, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced the delivery of the first Mirage 2000 aircraft to Ukraine

MOSCOW, March 7. /TASS/. The Ukrainian military scrambled French Mirage 2000 fighter jets for the first time in response to an air alert last night, according to a post on the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian air defense forces.

"Fighter aircraft, including F-16 and Mirage 2000 jets, were used," the post stated. It further noted that "French fighter jets, which arrived in Ukraine only a month ago, participated for the first time in responding to an air alert."

On February 6, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced the delivery of the first Mirage 2000 aircraft to Ukraine. While he did not specify the number of jets Paris intends to provide, media reports suggest it may be limited to six aircraft. Experts indicate that these fighters are optimized for strike missions, though they also possess capabilities to engage air targets.

During the night of March 7, an air alert was declared across Ukraine, lasting nearly 3.5 hours in the Ternopol region. Reports of explosions emerged from Ternopol, Ivano-Frankivsk, and other cities.
