BERLIN, March 3. /TASS/. The driver who rammed into a crowd of people in the city of Mannheim (federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg) in southwestern Germany, killing at least two, has mental health issues, a prosecutor said.
"We promptly focused on investigating the circumstances of this crime, on the suspect’s motives. It was not clear at the beginning whether the offender was an extremist or it was a politically motivated act. On the basis of our current data, we can rule this out. We have concrete evidence that the offender has mental health issues," Romeo Schuessler said.
He also noted that this was not a mere traffic accident but a serious crime. "We have launched a preliminary investigation into a double homicide and multiple attempted homicides," he added.
