Ukraine should return 3.5 bln euro in aid Slovakia provided to it, says Slovak politician

According to Andrej Danko, Ukraine exploited the conflict to milk as much money as possible from the countries that supported its fight against Russia

BRATISLAVA, February 25. /TASS/. Ukraine should pay back the 3.5 billion euros in aid Slovakia has provided it, Andrej Danko, deputy speaker of the National Council (parliament) of Slovakia, chairman of the Slovak National Party announced.

"How will Zelensky give us back the 3.5 billion euros that we sent there [to Ukraine]? For us [Slovakia], 3.5 billion euros is a huge amount," he said as quoted by news website novinky.

"If the Germans, along with the French and the Americans, demand that their money be returned, then Slovakia cannot remain silent," he added.

According to him, Ukraine exploited the conflict to milk as much money as possible from the countries that supported its fight against Russia.

Up to October 2024, Slovakia’s then liberal government provided military support to Kiev. The current cabinet provides humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

According to Slovak media, after February 24, 2022, Slovakia provided Ukraine with aid in the amount of 3.48 billion euros. This is approximately 3.22% of the republic's GDP. Most of the funds (2.77 billion euros) were spent on supporting Ukrainian refugees in the country. Total military aid is estimated at 690 million euros.
