EU senior officials arrive in Ukraine

Ursula von der Leyen believes that the conflict in the country is "a fight for survival" in which "not only the destiny of Ukraine" is "at stake," but also that of Europe

BRUSSELS, February 24. /TASS/ . Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa have arrived in Ukraine, von der Leyen announced on her X page.

"We are in Kiev today, because Ukraine is Europe," von der Leyen wrote. She believes that the conflict in the country is "a fight for survival" in which "not only the destiny of Ukraine" is "at stake," but also that of Europe.

Von der Leyen posted a short video showing her and Costa stepping out of a blue-and-yellow carriage onto the platform. Earlier, the European Commission announced that von der Leyen would be accompanied by key European commissioners on her trip to Kiev on February 24. The Commission also revealed that new promises of support for Ukraine, aimed at partially compensating for the reduction in US aid, would be announced during their visit.
