ASTANA, February 4. /TASS/. A preliminary report on the investigation into the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines jetliner released by the Kazakh Transport Ministry recommends that officials and airlines assess the risks of flights in areas where GPS signals can be lost.
According to the report, aviation authorities and airlines are advised to "assess the risks of flights to regions where losses of the Global Positioning System signal have been registered."
The report didn’t say why the recommendation was issued.
An Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 plane headed from Baku to Grozny crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25, killing 38 people. The aircraft carried 62 passengers and five crew members. The people aboard included citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
