CIS summit scheduled for October 10, Council of Heads of Government for June 5

According to tAhmad Saidmurodzoda, head of the CIS countries department of the Tajik Foreign Ministry, the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS member states is scheduled to take place on April 11 in Kazakhstan

MINSK, January 22. /TASS/. The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will hold a summit in Dushanbe on October 10, while the Council of Heads of Government will meet there on June 5, Ahmad Saidmurodzoda, head of the CIS countries department of the Tajik Foreign Ministry, told journalists.

"The summit of heads of state [of the Commonwealth] will take place on October 10 in Dushanbe. This will be the main event, the apotheosis of the Tajik [CIS] chairmanship, if you will. A session of the CIS Council of Heads of Government will also be held in the city of Dushanbe," he said.

According to the diplomat, the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS member states is scheduled to take place on April 11 in Kazakhstan.

CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev later clarified to journalists that, according to preliminary information, the foreign ministers’ meeting will have 13 topics on the agenda, with 16 documents, which are traditionally dedicated to boosting security of the CIS nations, to be reviewed. "It has topics connected to the cooperation of border services and defense ministries. Furthermore, four humanitarian topics are [on the agenda, among them] the establishment of a film festival of the Commonwealth members, and a volunteer movement," he said.

Additionally, four foundational CIS countries’ organizations will be established, one of which will be linked to cooperation in defense, and the other three - to education. The General Secretary added that a session of the Economic Council is planned for September.
