France begins withdrawal of fighter jets from Chad — agency

"There is no longer a justification for the detachment's presence in the country as the defense agreement has been annulled," the source told the news outlet

PARIS, December 10. /TASS/. French military aircraft have begun to withdraw from the Republic of Chad, Agence France-Presse reported, citing sources.

According to the news agency, "a contingent" of French fighter planes that had been stationed in Chad for decades departed from N'Djamena on Tuesday. A source reported that two Mirage 2000D aircraft, accompanied by a tanker plane, took off at approximately 1:30 p.m. local time (12:30 p.m. GMT).

"There is no longer a justification for the detachment's presence [in the country] as the defense agreement has been annulled," another source told the news outlet.

On November 29, Chad’s Foreign Ministry announced its decision to revoke a defense agreement with France. On December 5, the African nation’s Prime Minister Allamaye Halina officially appointed members to a commission tasked with executing the decision to terminate defense cooperation with France. The 21-member body is expected to finalize all legal, logistical, and other aspects of the move to end the defense pact.
