Syrian PM states readiness to transfer power peacefully

The premier noted that he would not leave Damascus and urged to maintain public institutions

DUBAI, December 8. /TASS/. Head of Syria’s present government Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali has expressed readiness to transfer power in the republic in a peaceful way after Syrian militants entered Damascus, according to his video address released on his page on Facebook (social media site banned in Russia due to its ownership by Meta, which is designated as extremist in Russia).

"We are offering our hand to opponents who have confirmed that they will not do harm to anyone who is part of our homeland. <…> We are ready to work with them in such a way as to provide all possible help to them and to gradually transfer state affairs, protecting state facilities," he said.

The premier also noted that he would not leave Damascus and urged to maintain public institutions. He plans to continue work to ensure the functioning of public agencies amid the developments in the republic.

Militants of terrorist units entered Damascus early on Sunday. Al Jazeera reported that the governmental forces had left the city center. The armed groups started a large-scale advance to positions of the Syrian army in late November.
