WASHINGTON, April 14. /TASS/. No attacks on US troops or facilities in the Middle East were registered during Iran’s strike on Israel, US President Joe Biden said.
"While we have not seen attacks on our forces or facilities today, we will remain vigilant to all threats and will not hesitate to take all necessary action to protect our people," he said in a statement, released by the White House press service.
Biden also noted that with the help from the US military, Israel managed to shoot down practically all drones and missiles sent by Iran and its allies to attack the Jewish state.
"At my direction, to support the defense of Israel, the US military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week. Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles," he said.
Meanwhile, CNN reported citing a US administration official that Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during their phone conversation earlier in the day that Washington will not participate in Israel’s possible attack on Iran.
Biden also told the Israeli leader that Israel should consider itself victorious, because Iranian attacks were "mostly unsuccessful."
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported late on Saturday that Iran had launched drones from its territory towards Israel. The Israeli military remained vigilant and tracked all targets approaching the country, the press service said. Later, missiles were also fired by Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), an elite force within the Iranian Armed Forces, later confirmed that a massive drone and missile attack on Israel was under way. The attack came in retaliation for the deadly Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1.
