GENEVA, March 1. /TASS/. Switzerland has joined the 13th sanctions package of the European Union (EU), the Swiss government, the Federal Council, said in a statement.
"The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), which is responsible for sanctions, decided on February 29 to impose further sanctions against Russia. Switzerland is thus joining the 13th sanctions package of the European Union (EU)," the statement reads. The measures will enter into force at 6 p.m. (8 p.m. Moscow time) on March 1, 2024.
"As part of a 13th package of sanctions adopted on 23 February [2024], the EU imposed new sanctions" against Russia, the Swiss government noted, adding that the EAER followed suit on February 29 "by expanding the Swiss sanctions lists under its jurisdiction to include a further 106 individuals and 88 entities and organizations."
"The individuals, entities and organizations newly placed under sanction are primarily those operating in Russia's military-industrial complex and involved in the manufacture of missiles, drones, anti-aircraft missile systems and other military equipment," according to the statement.
Additional trade sanctions have been introduced to further prevent Russia from acquiring sensitive goods and technologies for the Russian military. These measures add 27 entities to the export ban on dual-use goods and on goods that may contribute to Russia's military and technological enhancement. The list of goods included in the export ban has also been expanded as the sale and export to Russia of "components used in the design and manufacture of drones is now prohibited" among other things.
On February 23, the European Union approved the 13th package of sanctions against Russia, introducing restrictive measures against 106 individuals and 88 legal entities, including such countries as China, India, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, and Turkey.
