BELGRADE, December 25. /TASS/. The Borba (or Fight) student organization has launched a protest in front of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government in the Serbian capital, the N1 TV channel reported.
The student organization supports the Serbia Against Violence opposition coalition, demanding that the Ministry of Public Administration re-check voter lists for irregularities in the December 17 parliamentary election.
Students plan to block the entrance to the building until 6:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. GMT). According to the TV channel, student activists from the country’s second largest city of Novi Sad intend to join the protest.
Meanwhile, Serbian police chief Ivica Ivkovic said that police would not let protesters block street traffic and the work of government agencies.
Members of the Serbia Against Violence opposition coalition, who started a series of rallies in front of the the Republican Election Commission building in Belgrade on December 18, tried to storm the city administration building on Sunday but police officers dispersed the protesters. The Serbian president warned that opposition protests would lead to nothing as "elections are the only way to change the government" in the country.
