Chinese diplomat threatens US with retaliatory sanctions

Mao Ning underlined that Beijing has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions and the extraterritorial extension of national laws abused by the United States

BEIJING, December 13. /TASS/. The Chinese authorities will take countermeasures in connection with the Russia-related sanctions imposed by the US against Chinese individuals and companies, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning said.

"The US side should immediately make amends and right this wrong, stop restricting and oppressing Chinese enterprises," she said at the briefing. "China will also take necessary measures, and we will resolutely protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises," the diplomat pointed out.

According to the spokeswoman, Beijing has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions and the extraterritorial extension of national laws abused by the United States.

Earlier, the United States added 23 individuals, including citizens of Russia, China, Pakistan, South Korea and Turkey, and about 240 legal entities, including those from China, to the sanctions list. According to the US Treasury Department, the restrictions target entities that support the Russian defense industry, help Moscow evade sanctions, and help build future energy supplies and export capacity.
