Venezuela supports Russia’s demands that West lift its sanctions — top diplomat

According to Yvan Gil Pinto, the West is seeking to undermine the sovereignty of Russia and Venezuela with the use of sanctions

MOSCOW, November 16. /TASS/. Venezuela supports Russia in its demands that the illegal economic sanctions imposed by Western countries be lifted, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto said at a joint news conference with Russia’s top diplomat Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.

"On behalf of the Venezuelan government, we support all Russian actions in demanding that the sanctions which have been illegally imposed on Russia and Venezuela be immediately lifted," the Venezuelan minister said.

According to Gil Pinto, the West is seeking to undermine the sovereignty of Russia and Venezuela with the use of sanctions. "Our countries have been victimized by sanctions of Western countries which are pursuing the goal of imposing their will on other nations," he added as he slammed the restrictions as unjust and unilateral.

"This will not happen," as Moscow and Caracas will maintain and expand their bilateral cooperation in the economic and political spheres, Gil Pinto said. "In this way we will protect our countries from unilateral restrictions. We have reached very important agreements in this sphere which will enable us to counteract the sanctions policy," he emphasized.
