MADRID, September 26. /TASS/. Debates on Spain’s conservative People’s leader Party Alberto Nunez Feijoo’s candidacy for the prime minister’s office begin in the Congress of Deputies (lower chamber of the parliament).
The first vote is expected to take place on September 27. In order to get elected as a prime minister, a candidate must secure support of at least 176 deputies out of 350. Otherwise, a second vote will take place in the Congress, which will be decided by a simple majority.
Should Nunez Feijoo fail to get elected as a prime minister, political forces represented in the parliament will have two months to try to agree on a new prime minister’s candidacy. Otherwise, King Felipe VI will dismiss both chambers of the parliament and will call for snap elections.
