BAKU, September 24. /TASS/. The city of Khankendi (Stepanakert) has been connected to Azerbaijan’s power grid, the administration of the Azerbaijani president said on Sunday.
"The city of Khankendi has been disconnected from Armenia’s power network to be connected to Azerbaijan’s power grid," it said, adding that electricity is supplied from the Shusha substation, which was opened in 2021.
According to the administration, proving electricity to the city is a step toward implementing accords discussed during a meeting between Azerbaijani officials and representatives of Karabakh’s Armenian population in Yevlakh on September 21.
On September 19, tensions flared up again in Nagorno-Karabakh. Baku announced it was launching what it described as "local anti-terrorist measures" and demanded the withdrawal of Armenian troops from the region. Yerevan, in turn, said there were no Armenian forces in Karabakh, calling what was happening "an act of large-scale aggression." Russia called on the parties to end the bloodshed and return to efforts to resolve the issue diplomatically. On September 20, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced that an agreement on the suspension of the anti-terrorist measures in Karabakh had been reached through the mediation of Russia’s peacekeeping mission.
On September 21, Azerbaijani officials met with representatives of Karabakh’s Armenian population in the Azerbaijani city of Yevlakh to "discuss issues of reintegration.".
