Ukrainian servicemen undergo training in Italy — report

According to the Corriere della Sera, the training in Italy started back during the Mario Draghi cabinet

ROME, February 4. /TASS/. Ukrainian servicemen undergo training in Italy, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said during a meeting of the special parliamentary committee, the Corriere della Sera reported Saturday.

According to the report, the training in Italy started back during the Mario Draghi cabinet.

"When shipping complex weapons, it is necessary to train those who will use them," the report quotes sources in the Defense Ministry as saying.

On December 1, 2022, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the US and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine by shipping weapons and training the servicemen. According to the Foreign Minister, the training takes place in the UK, Germany, Italy and other states. Later, the Italian Defense Ministry claimed that no training for Ukrainian servicemen took place inside the republic.

Meanwhile, the Repubblica reported in December that Ukrainian servicemen were trained in special operations tactics - in particular, raids and sabotage. It was believed that the training was received by several dozen of Ukrainian nationals. The newspaper pointed out that this information is classified and the Defense Ministry will not confirm it.

The Repubblica also noted the remarks made by Foreign Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini: in August, 2022, he said that targeted training events for the Ukrainian personnel took place in order to make the use of shipped weapons safer.
