EU supports exports of 45 mln metric tons of grain from Ukraine in 2022 — Statement

Such export enabled Ukraine to generate about 20 billion euro in revenues, according to the statement

BRUSSELS, February 3. /TASS/. The European Union supported exports of 45 mln metric tons of grain by land and river from Ukraine in 2022 and is going to continue this practice, according to the Joint Statement following the EU - Ukraine Summit.

"We underscored the importance of further implementing the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes [the name given to land and river grain export routes by Brussels - TASS]. Covering trade across all sectors and connecting Ukraine with the EU and the rest of the world, they have become a life line for Ukraine's economy. Between May and December 2022, they have allowed for the export of about 45 million tonnes of Ukrainian goods and equally importantly the import into Ukraine of about 23 million tonnes of goods it needs," the statement reads.

Such export enabled Ukraine to generate about 20 billion euro in revenues, according to the statement. Participants in the summit "agreed to prioritize efforts to further strengthen EU-Ukraine connectivity, particularly by improving infrastructural connections, including through the development of interoperable railway infrastructure, extending the EU-Ukraine Road Transport Agreement and by mobilizing EU financial support to the development of the Solidarity Lanes," the statement reads.
