Kiev must decide on own when, on what terms to talk to Moscow — German cabinet

"The German government assumes that Ukraine has the right to determine when it considers the war over, when it wants to enter into negotiations and under what preconditions," Christiane Hoffmann said

BERLIN, January 27. /TASS/. Ukraine must independently decide on the moment and preconditions for a dialogue with Russia, and the German government has nothing to do with this issue, German government representative Christiane Hoffmann said during a briefing Friday.

"The German government assumes that Ukraine has the right to determine when it considers the war over, when it wants to enter into negotiations and under what preconditions," Hoffmann said. "This is not a decision for us to make, it is a decision for Ukraine, which we, of course, stay in close contact with. Still, it is Ukraine’s decision," she noted.

Earlier on Thursday, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said in his interview with Sky News that he is not interested in negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added that, after the beginning of the special military operation, Putin has become a "nobody" for him. Previously, Zelensky signed a decree that prohibits any negotiations with Russia.

Meanwhile, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Ukrainian leader was preparing for a war and has himself long ceased to be a potential interlocutor for Putin.
