Arsonists set shelter ablaze housing Ukrainian refugees in northern Germany — Bild

The day before the accident, unidentified persons had painted a swastika at the entrance to the building

BERLIN, October 20. /TASS/. Unidentified individuals set fire to a shelter for Ukrainian refugees in the municipality of Gross Stromkendorf (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) in northern Germany, there are no casualties, the German newspaper Bild reported on Thursday.

According to the paper, the fire broke out from the outer wall of the main building of the Schafereck hotel around 9:20 p.m. (10:20 p.m. Moscow time) on Wednesday. The flames quickly reached the thatched roof of the building, which immediately caught fire.

The building has housed 14 Ukrainian refugees since March of this year. In addition, three employees of the German Red Cross Society were on site. "As of now, all 14 people have left the site. Nothing happened to the three employees," a representative of the local authorities said.

According to the Bild, the police suspect that it was arson. The day before the accident, unidentified persons had painted a swastika at the entrance to the building.

Up to 120 firefighters worked at the site until Thursday morning. The refugees were moved to other shelters.
