Baku accuses Yerevan of undermining efforts towards normalization of relations

According to Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry, "such slanderous, destructive statements of the Armenian side <…> harm the process of the state border delimitation"

BAKU, May 29. /TASS/. Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry has rejected the Armenian side’s accusations of the ceasefire violation on the border and accused Yerevan of undermining efforts toward normalizing relations between the two countries.

"We strongly reject the Armenian foreign ministry’s statement of May 28 saying that the Azerbaijani side had violated the ceasefire and accusing Azerbaijan without any grounds," the ministry said on Sunday.

"Such slanderous, destructive statements of the Armenian side <…> are aimed at undermining steps toward the normalization [of relations] and harm the process of the state border delimitation," it said.

"On its part, Azerbaijan will continue internationally-supported efforts toward building peace in the post-conflict period and will resolutely repress any steps geared against this process," the ministry stressed.

On May 28, the Armenian defense ministry said that Azerbaijani troops opened fire at combat positions of the Armenian army at the southeastern border section. As a result of the incident, one soldier was badly wounded. On Sunday, the ministry said that this soldier died.

The Azerbaijani defense ministry refuted these reports, calling them false and untrue.
