SLBM last launched by N.Korea of same type as in 2021, Japanese top brass says

On May 7, North Korea tested its latest missile that Japan and South Korea suggested was a submarine-launched one

TOKYO, May 10. /TASS/. On May 7, North Korea tested the same type of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) as last October, Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi told reporters on Tuesday.

"We assume North Korea has fired the same type of a SLBM as it did last October," Kishi said. He also confirmed his Ministry’s earlier reports that the missile flew about 600 km and achieved an altitude of some 50 km.

On May 7, North Korea tested its latest missile that Japan and South Korea suggested was a submarine-launched one. The missile remained outside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan.

Last October, the North also successfully launched a new SLBM. Before that, the republic tested such missiles in 2015 and 2019.
