EU leaders consider limiting price of gas import from Russia — Belgian PM

We asked the European Commission to assess performance of current measures, Alexander De Croo said

BRUSSELS, March 25. /TASS/. EU leaders are considering limiting gas supplies from Russia and gas prices, Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo said on Friday.

"EU leaders will continue discussing the possibility of limiting Russia’s revenues from gas export. We can discuss limitations of procured volumes and can also discuss price restrictions," De Croo said.

"As regards the Russia’s statement of paying for gas in rubles - the European Commission should study it. A significant portion of contracts - up to 80% - is already actually paid in rubles now. However, if we change one parameter of the contract regarding the payment procedure, why not changing another one related to prices," De Croo added.

"We asked the European Commission to assess performance of current measures, study the possibilities of circumventing them and decide whether they need updating. It is also necessary to consider what extra measures can be, because it is necessary to guarantee that they have a greater effect for the Russian side than for our one," the Prime Minister noted.
