Global players should compel conflicting sides in Ukraine to negotiate — Bennett

On February 24 Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics

TEL AVIV, March 3. /TASS/. Major global players must take urgent steps to bring the conflicting sides in Ukraine to the negotiating table, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said, according to a statement published on the website of the Israeli Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

"What is happening on the ground right now [in Ukraine] looks bad, but it’s important to understand that if world leaders don’t act quickly, things could get much worse," he was quoted as saying. "I am talking about the death of many people, the complete destruction of Ukraine and millions of refugees."

"But it's not too late," he went on to say. "Major global players must act quickly to bring both sides from the battlefield to the negotiating table."

"In Israel, we have experienced many wars, and I can share with you our main conclusion: Wars are easy to start and very difficult to end," Bennett said.

On February 24 Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aims to demilitarize and denazify the country. The Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian troops are not targeting Ukrainian cities, but are incapacitating Ukrainian military infrastructure, therefore there are no threats to the civilian population.
