Three more checkpoints to be opened in Syria’s Idlib zone

No shelling attacks by Turkey-controlled illegal armed groups were reported during the past day, but thirty-five shelling attacks from the positions of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group were registered

MOSCOW, February 15. /TASS/. Syria’s authorities with the help of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria are opening three more checkpoints in the Idlib de-escalation zone in response to people’s complaints of intolerable conditions entailed by the US sanctions, Vyacheslva Sytnik, the Center’s deputy chief, said on Monday.

"In response to the growing number of complaints from people living in the Idlib de-escalation zone about the lack of qualified medical assistance and the dire socio-economic situation stemming from the stifling US sanctions, the Syrian authorities with the help of the Russian reconciliation center plan to open checkpoints in the settlements of Saraqib, Miznas, and Abu Azeidin to give people possibilities of unimpeded crossing of the Idlib de-escalation zone’s borders," he said.

According to Sytnik, no shelling attacks by Turkey-controlled illegal armed groups were reported during the past day.

"Nevertheless, thirty-five shelling attacks from the positions of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group (outlawed in Russia) were registered in the Idlib de-escalation zone," he added.

The Russian reconciliation center continues to fulfill assigned tasks after the completion of the military campaign in Syria. The center’s officers regularly travel around the country's liberated areas to assess the humanitarian situation. The main efforts of the Russian military are now focused on assistance to the refugees returning to their homes and evacuation of civilians from de-escalation zones.
