Putin to present state awards to winners, medalists of 2024 Paris Paralympics

Nine athletes will be awarded the Order of Honor, eight will receive the Order of Friendship, and another 22 will receive the Order for Merit to the Fatherland of the 1st or 2nd degree

MOSCOW, December 16. /TASS/. Russia's President Vladimir Putin is to meet Russian winners and medalists of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and present them with state awards on Monday.

The head of state signed a decree on awarding Russian Paralympians on October 21. The document underscores their "great contribution to the development of national sports, high athletic achievements, their will to win, fortitude and determination" revealed during the recent competitions. Nine athletes will be awarded the Order of Honor, eight will receive the Order of Friendship, and another 22 will receive the Order for Merit to the Fatherland of the 1st or 2nd degree.

The 2024 Paralympics were held from August 28 to September 8 in Paris. In total 88 Russians competed in five events - track and field, swimming, triathlon, table tennis and taekwondo. Russian Paralympians were only allowed to compete as neutrals, and their medals were not counted in the overall standings. Russian athletes won 64 medals (20 gold, 21 silver and 23 bronze medals) and took the eighth place in the unofficial overall standings. A total of 171 countries took part in the Paris Paralympics.
