Mick Schumacher makes F1 debut taking Ferrari for test spin at racing track in Bahrain

Mick, the son of legendary F1’s seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher, is the winner of last year’s Formula 3 series

MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Promising racing star Mick Schumacher made a debut driving a Formula One racing car this week as he burned the racing track in Abu Dhabi in one of Ferrari’s bolides during a test drive, the press service of the Italian team Ferrari reported.

Mick Schumacher, the son of legendary F1’s seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher, is the winner of last year’s Formula 3 series and is currently among the top drivers in F2 piloting for Prema team. Mick Schumacher, 20, is also on the program of the Ferrari Driver Academy.

In a statement last week, Ferrari announced that Mick Schumacher was to drive "Ferrari SF90 for the first time on the first day of the test, Tuesday 2 April, following the Bahrain Grand Prix," adding that "after first driving the Ferrari he will jump into the cockpit of the Alfa Romeo Racing car for the Wednesday [April 3]."

Commenting last year on Mick Schumacher’s possible perspectives, F1 Managing Director of Motorsports Ross Brawn told TASS that the young racer had "to take more steps" in the world of racing before he would be able to join Formula One.

"The name of Schumacher carries a lot of history. If he [Mick Schumacher] merits and if he wants to be fully prepared before he makes his step into Formula One, I think Formula Two is the next logical step for Mick," Ross Brawn told TASS in September.

Michael Schumacher won all of his seven F1 championship titles, including five racing for Ferrari, in collaboration with Ross Brawn.
