FSB thwarts Ukrainian plot to kill Russian serviceman in St. Petersburg

A Makarov pistol with ammunition and a silencer was seized from the attacker

MOSCOW, January 30. /TASS/. Officers of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) have stopped a terror plot by a Ukrainian terrorist organization against a Russian serviceman in St. Petersburg, the FSB reported.

"The Russian Federal Security Service in St. Petersburg foiled the illegal activity of a supporter of a Ukrainian terrorist organization, outlawed in Russia, who, acting on instructions from Ukrainian special services, plotted to attack a Russian serviceman," according to the FSB.

The attacker was detained in an FSB search. A Makarov pistol with ammunition and a silencer was seized from him.

According to the FSB, the suspect contacted a recruiter on Telegram, agreeing to commit a terror attack in support of the Kiev regime. He had been given a gun by his curator and collected information about the serviceman’s place of residence as he prepared to assassinate him.

A criminal case has been opened. The FSB warned that Ukrainian special services’ activity to look for potential attackers and saboteurs on the Internet, on social media and foreign messengers continues unabated as it cautioned against criminal prosecution.
