VILNIUS, April 1. /TASS/. The fourth US serviceman missing since last week’s drills in Lithuania was found deceased, according to a statement published by the US Army Europe and Africa Command.
"The fourth U.S. Army Soldier assigned to 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division·was found deceased near Pabrade, Lithuania the afternoon of April 1," the statement reads.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has expressed his condolences over the serviceman’s death. "Deeply saddened to announce that the body of the fourth U.S. soldier, who was training in Lithuania, has been found," he wrote on the X social network. "Our heartfelt condolences go to our U.S. allies and their people," the Lithuanian leader added. "We are deeply grateful to everyone who dedicated immense efforts to find the one remaining soldier still missing under such challenging conditions," Nauseda concluded.
On March 27, the US Army authorities confirmed that an M88A2 Hercules armored recovery vehicle was discovered. As reported earlier, four US servicemen used it to leave military drills in Pabrade, Lithuania, on March 25, and disappeared. The armored vehicle was found "submerged in a body of water" near the site of the drills.
