Putin gives illegal migrants from Ukraine until fall to leave or legitimize their status

The Russian Internal Ministry has been instructed to exclude in the same period from prosecution for violation of the regime of stay in Russia those citizens of Ukraine who have passed dactyloscopy, photography and medical examination

MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. Ukrainian nationals staying in Russia for no legitimate purpose have until September 10 to apply for a legitimate stay in the country or leave, Russian President Vladimir Putin decreed on Thursday.

"Ukrainian citizens staying in the Russian Federation for no legitimate reason should either leave the Russian Federation on their own or have their stay in the Russian Federation legitimized until September 10, 2025," the decree reads.

The Russian Internal Ministry has been instructed to exclude in the same period from prosecution for violation of the regime of stay in Russia those citizens of Ukraine who have passed dactyloscopy, photography and medical examination.

The Russian Health Ministry should conduct a medical examination of Ukrainian citizens within the same period of time.

Since February, Russia has been implementing a regime of deportation of illegal migrants. Such persons must legalize their stay or leave Russia by April 30. The presidential decree thus gave Ukrainian citizens additional time to legalize their status in Russia.
