MELITOPOL, April 13. /TASS/. Reactor unit 4 of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant has been moved to cold shutdown normally, the nuclear facility said on its Telegram channel.
The Zaporozhye nuke plant had been keeping all its reactor units in shutdown since September 2022. Five of the plant’s six reactors were earlier in a cold shutdown mode, with the remaining one being left in hot shutdown.
"At 7:30 a.m. local time (5:30 a.m. GMT - TASS) today, reactor unit 4 of the Zaporozhye NPP was transitioned to cold shutdown. The transition was completed normally in accordance with the requirements of regulatory documentation, and no violations of the limits or conditions of safe operation were recorded," the power plant said in a statement.
According to it, background radiation on site, in the sanitary protection zone and the monitoring zone is normal.
Now, all six units of the ZNPP are in a cold shutdown state, the statement reads.
The ZNPP, located in Energodar, has six power units with a total capacity of 6 GW. It is Europe‘s largest nuclear power generating facility. At the end of February 2022, the facility was taken over by Russian forces. Since then, Ukrainian army units have periodically shelled both residential areas in Energodar and the plant itself using drones, heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers.
