World’s oldest man dies in Venezuela at 114, longevity aided by 'daily glass of brandy'

CARACAS, April 3. /TASS/. Venezuela’s Juan Vicente Perez Mora, the world's oldest verified living man, died at the age of 114, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro reported.

"Juan Vicente Perez Mora, who was in the Guinness World Records as the world's oldest verified living man, died at the age of 114. I hug his family and express my condolences to the citizens of El Cobre [the town where he was born]," the president wrote on his page on social media platform X.

According to the El Nacional newspaper, Perez died of respiratory complications at the age of 114 years and 339 days, just days before his birthday. On February 4, 2022, he was added to the Guinness World Records as the world's oldest verified living man (he was 112 years and 253 days old at the time), surpassing Spain's Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia, who died at the age of 112. Perez attributed his long life to "steady work, enough rest and recreation, going to sleep early and a daily glass of brandy." According to the newspaper, the supercentenarian ate well, prayed, drank water and went to bed early.

Perez was born in El Cobre, Venezuela, on May 27, 1909, the ninth of ten children. The supercentenarian himself fathered 11 children. According to the newspaper, he spent his final years in a house located on a farm in San Jose de Bolivar.
