Sanya's Phoenix Airport operator plans to build third terminal

The expansion is expected to improve the airport's serviceability

HAIKOU /China/, April 12. /TASS/. The operating company of the Phoenix International Airport in the city of Sanya on the southern coast of China's Hainan Island plans to build a third passenger terminal. This was announced Wednesday by the PR department of the provincial party committee.

The Sanya Natural Resources and Planning Bureau will look into the possibility of expanding the airport, according to its WeChat page. It will take up the opinions of organizations and members of the public on the matter through May 11.

The bureau said on its website that the project will raise the maximum height of the terminal to 45 meters if the land use request is approved for construction purposes. The share of the green area must exceed 15% of the site.

According to the department, the need to build a new terminal "meets the requirements of commercial operation and development" of the airport. The expansion is expected to "gradually improve the usability" of the airport.

Phoenix Airport is among China's key airports. The Airports Council International in 2019 recognized it as the best in Asia among airports equipped for civil aviation and processing 15 to 25 million passengers a year.
