Moscow shocked by reports about death of Belarusian Foreign Minister Makei - diplomat

MOSCOW, November 26. /TASS/. Moscow is shaken by reports on Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei’s death, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Saturday.

"We are shocked by the reports about the passing away of Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei. The Russian Foreign Ministry will publish official condolences shortly," the diplomat wrote on her Telegram channel.

The Belarusian news agency BelTA reported on Saturday that the Belarusian foreign minister had passed away.

Vladimir Makei was born in the Grodno Region on August 5, 1958. He graduated from the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. Makei worked at the Council of Europe and headed the European Cooperation Department of the Foreign Ministry. In 2000-2008 he was an aide to the Belarusian president. He was appointed foreign minister in August 2012.
