TASS, October 15. Kerch ferry crossing between the Crimea and the mainland will work even after the restoration of the Crimean Bridge, the deputy head of Rosmorrechflot Konstantin Anisimov told TASS.
On Friday, Crimean State Council Chairman Vladimir Konstantinov told TASS that the Kerch ferry crossing should continue to operate after the restoration of the Crimean Bridge. According to him, this will increase the safety of the peninsula's transportation system.
"Yes, it will [the ferry crossing will xontinue to operate after the restoration of the Crimean Bridge]. Even before that [the incident on the bridge], it was operating in certain volumes, carrying special types of cargo," Anisimov said.
However, according to him, now there are difficulties in promptly finding a large number of ferries. "It takes time to mobilize them to work on the line. But we hope that the repair [of the Crimean Bridge] will be carried out quickly and will not require a large number of ferries," Anisimov added.
Earlier, the Crimean Transport Ministry told TASS that the seventh ferry would arrive in the Kerch Strait within two days. However, the ministry recommended that truck drivers used an alternative overland route from Crimea to the Rostov region through the new regions, the travel time along this route takes about seven hours.
A truck exploded on the Crimean Bridge on Saturday morning, causing several fuel tanks of a train to catch fire. Two spans of the bridge’s roadway to the peninsula collapsed but a lane leading from Crimea to the Krasnodar Region reportedly remained intact. A governmental commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin has been created in connection with the accident. Railway traffic on the Crimean Bridge has been restored, so was partial passenger car traffic.
