Mariupol’s mayor says Ukrainian POWs might be used for city’s restoration

DPR leader Denis Pushilin appointed Ivashchenko as Mariupol’s mayor on April 6

MARIUPOL, April 8. /TASS/. Mariupol’s newly-appointed mayor, Konstantin Ivashchenko, does not rule out that Ukrainian prisoners of war might be used to repair the damage done to the city, if such a decision is adopted after consultations with the Donetsk People’s Republic’s military.

"I’ve had such an idea, that’s true. I am establishing closer contact with the DPR’s military. It’s a tricky question, because they (POWs - TASS) are to be guarded. All of us know very well who ruined our city," Ivashchenko said.

On Thursday, human rights commissioner in the DPR Darya Morozova called upon the Ukrainian authorities for creating an effective mechanism to exchange prisoners of war. She stressed that the rights of all Ukrainian military personnel taken prisoner were strictly observed in accordance with the 3rd Geneva Convention.
