More than 20 Sanya hotels and landmarks participate in Earth Hour

Key tourist attractions and companies joined the campaign

SANYA /China/, March 30. /TASS/. More than 20 hotels and key tourist attractions in the resort city of Sanya (Hainan Province, South China) took part in Earth Hour, which was held in the evening of March 26, the newspaper Sanya Daily reported.

According to the article, the resort authorities are committed to the development of sustainable tourism. Ahead of the campaign, Sanya Tourism Promotion Board called for the participation of key tourist attractions, as well as companies operating in the tourism sector. A number of hotels in popular Yalunwan and Haitan Wan bays, as well as the Taoist Heavenly Grottoes Park, Sanya Haichang Fantasy Town amusement park and many others have joined them.

In addition to taking part in the action, the resort city authorities are taking a range of measures to promote sustainable tourism, the newspaper writes. In particular, they protect endangered species of flora and fauna and promote environmental protection.

Earth Hour is an annual international event held by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) since 2007 on the last Saturday of March. Its goal is to encourage people to treat nature and its resources with care. Campaign participants switch off lights in residential buildings, landmarks and monuments for one hour (from 20:30 to 21:30 local time). Street lighting, air navigation lights, and traffic lights are not affected by this action. In Russia Earth Hour has been held since 2009.
