Paraguay receives another batch of Russian Sputnik V jab — report

The delivery made up 200,000 vaccine doses

BUENOS AIRES, June 30. / TASS /. Another batch of the Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine has been delivered to Paraguay, the Prensa Libre newspaper stated on its website.

Paraguay’s Health Minister Julio Borba welcomed the delivery of some 200,000 vaccine doses. On Thursday, the government will announce how the drug is going to be distributed as part of mass vaccination, he stated.

"Supplies of as many as 1.4 mln COVID-19 vaccine doses have been guaranteed," Borba said. According to the health minister, the jab delivery will significantly boost the country’s mass vaccination.

Paraguay launched mass vaccination on February 22, however, it was proceeding very slowly and has been repeatedly suspended due to a lack of jabs. Until now, the country, which is home to 7 mln people, has inoculated just slightly more than 665,000 citizens with at least one vaccine dose.

Paraguay confirmed the first COVID-19 case on March 7, 2020. The country's authorities introduced quarantine on March 10, 2020, which was extended several times.
