MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. Russia condemns acts of vandalism against monuments of the Great Patriotic War committed on January 12 in Ukraine’s Kherson, and it is calling on local officials to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during Friday’s briefing.
"We condemn such barbaric acts and we urge to hold a detailed investigation and punish those responsible. <…> Attempts to falsify history, glorify Nazi henchmen at the state level have led to the loss of a simple moral compass in society, unleashing right-wing radical groups and making those who violate the law and commit atrocities feel as if they have full impunity," she said.
Zakharova noted that Ukraine needs to revise its modern ideology. "Deriding the memory of Red Army soldiers who gave their lives in the fight against fascist invaders and liberated the city from three-year occupation clearly shows what the policy of the so-called decommunization held by Kiev in recent years has led to," she added.
On January 12, the press service of the Kherson Region police informed that vandals had damaged 17 monuments located at the mass grave of soldiers who served in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), the police is searching for those involved in the crime.
