Russia’s security chief praises Soviet Afghan war veterans’ experience

February 15 marks 30 years of the Soviet troops' withdrawal from Afghanistan

MOSCOW, February 15. /TASS/. The experience of Soviet Afghan war veterans remains in demand, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said on Friday.

Russia’s security chief spoke before participants of an official ceremony held in the Kremlin on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Soviet troops’ pullout from Afghanistan.

"The invaluable experience gained in fulfilling combat assignments and rendering economic and humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan is in demand today as well," the security chief said.

‘We honor the memory of those who gave their lives for the benefit of the Motherland, displaying courage, endurance and heroism," he stressed. "They will always remain in our hearts."

Russia’s security chief noted the Afghan war veterans’ contribution to the patriotic upbringing of the youth, to the unification of all participants of local wars and armed conflicts. "They are taking active part in the county’s social and cultural life and in the implementation of socially significant projects," Patrushev said.

"This is important and extremely needed work that deserves deep respect and sincere gratitude," Russia’s security chief said.
