Putin sets sights on boosting popularity of space industry

According to the President, Russia's achievements in space are something the country can and should be proud of

VOSTOCHNY SPACEPORT, April 12. /TASS/. Russia will work on popularizing the rocket and space industry and its achievements, through films and books among other things, and through educational activities in schools, said Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with domestic space industry personnel at the renowned Vostochny spaceport.

At the meeting, a participant hoped that the next generation would learn as much as possible about the industry’s achievements. He asked how the government would support this field, including the popularization of the profession.

"This is a very important issue. [Writer] Daniil Granin once told me that the government should pay more attention to this - to science in general and to high-tech industries such as space, too," Putin noted. "We will create films, we will work on relevant literature - as practical tasks. We'll popularize all this in schools," he explained.

According to President Putin, Russia's achievements in space are something we can and should be proud of, and "something that attracts talented young people to the industry." "Of course, this is one of the most important fields," he maintained.

Roscosmos chief, Dmitry Rogozin, pointed out that the competition for training in specialized professions has surged and now seven people are vying for one spot.
