Blinken lies about causes of Russia’s special operation — senior Russian legislator

US Secretary of State denies NATO expansion to the East is a threat, the head of the State Duma’s Committee on International Affairs says

MOSCOW, March 8. /TASS/. The head of the State Duma’s Committee on International Affairs, Leonid Slutsky, has described as an obvious and outright lie the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s statement about the reasons behind the start of Russia’s special military operation, as well as his denial of threats to Russia and NATO’s expansion.

"Here is a fresh contribution to the chronicle of the empire of lies: US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken denies NATO expansion to the East is a threat. He insists that NATO’s expansion or a threat to the security of Russia have never been on the agenda. If he is to be believed, the reason for the Ukrainian conflict is allegedly the Russian leadership’s idea of depriving Ukraine of its independence," Slutsky wrote on his Telegram channel.

"It makes no sense to say that the United States turns the situation upside down. Blinken's words are an obvious and undisguised lie," he stressed.

According to the legislator, US politicians are not constrained either by their colleagues' confessions that they had been preparing for a war with Russia almost since 2014, nor by Moscow's repeated warnings to the whole world about the inadmissibility of NATO approaching Russian borders and its proposal for signing relevant agreements."

"We were then clearly told the alliance pursued an open door policy, including for Ukraine. An empire of lies, as it is! And its faithful adherents in all their glory," he concluded.
