UN, January 30. /TASS/. Given the relatively cheap price of energy in Russia, it could be a perfect place for the US and other foreign countries to build data centers, Boris Titov, Russian presidential envoy for relations with international organizations to achieve sustainable development goals, said.
"Technology is advancing these days. And, of course, Americans are building a huge number of data centers now. Major American companies are doing so. Although many are now beginning to think that this might not be the safest investment as the risks are high, Russia today has large energy resources, and they are quite cheap compared to world prices and prices even in the United States of America," he told Russian reporters at the UN headquarters.
"Therefore, for example, building data centers in Russia is very profitable. And not just for the Americans. It could be for the Chinese, too, or perhaps for other companies from other countries. It's simply more profitable to build in Russia and provide this billing service locally. Here, of course, there must be trust, a certain investment climate [must] be established for this, but this is a potentially profitable area of cooperation for many," Titov explained.
If Russian-American relations improve, the abolition of the broad interpretation of sanctions by companies will be the first step, he noted. "Medium-sized strong enterprises, mid-level enterprises will start communicating with each other because they don't have any formal sanctions," Titov said, adding that this could be followed by the lifting of restrictions on financial settlements, which represent a major obstacle in relations between the two countries.
