Africa to send over 40 delegations to Moscow security forum

According to the Russian Security Council, "African countries demonstrate keen interest" to the forum that will be held in Moscow on May 27 through 29

MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. Delegations from more than 40 African countries will take part in the meeting of high representatives in charge of security issues in Moscow, the press service of the Russian Security Council told TASS.

"The majority of African countries have confirmed their participation in the 13th international meeting of high representatives in charge of security issues," it said, adding that "African countries show a keen interest" in the forum, which will take place from May 27-29 in Moscow.

"Forty-five delegations from more than 40 African nations and several international organizations of the African continent, including the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), have confirmed their participation in the forum, which will be chaired by Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu," it stated.

During the event, a dedicated briefing will focus on ways to further deepen Russia’s relations with African countries, particularly in line with the outcomes of previous Russia-Africa summits, the press service informed.

"Large-scale geopolitical changes have directly affected the interests of countries of the global South and East. The voice of African countries is being heard more and more clearly as they strive to conduct their foreign policy in the interests of their peoples and defend their right to freely choose how to move forward," the Russian Security Council emphasized.

"Russia has always helped its African partners in defending their sovereignty, national interests and their legitimate role in the system of international relations," it added.
