West should acknowledge its failure to weaken Russia geopolitically — top senator

Valentina Matviyenko emphasized that Russia was not the party that withdrew from treaties or dismantled the security architecture "built over many years, including during the Cold War era"

MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. The West should recognize that it has lost the battle and failed to inflict a geopolitical defeat on Russia, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.

"The West should heed the situation, reassess its position, and admit that it has failed — failed to halt Russia's progress and impose a geopolitical defeat on our country," the senator said during the plenary session. "It is time for them to come to the negotiating table to discuss a broad range of international security issues."

She emphasized that Russia was not the party that withdrew from treaties or dismantled the security architecture "built over many years, including during the Cold War era." "We hope the response will be proportional; otherwise, this leads to a standstill," Matviyenko concluded.
