US sanctions against Russia threaten global supply chains — China's Commerce Ministry

It is reported that Washington's actions are classic examples of the "long arm" overreach of national jurisdiction (the extraterritorial application of one country’s domestic legislation to other nations) and economic coercion

BEIJING, February 26. /TASS/. US sanctions against Russia and its trading partners threaten the security of global supply chains, the Chinese Commerce Ministry said.

"What the United States is doing is typical unilateral sanctions," the ministry said in a statement in connection with the latest package of US anti-Russian sanctions. "They undermine the rules and procedures of international trade and economic relations, and jeopardize the security and stability of global production and supply chains," the statement said.

According to it, Washington's actions are classic examples of the "long arm" overreach of national jurisdiction (the extraterritorial application of one country’s domestic legislation to other nations) and economic coercion. "China is firmly against such steps. We will take necessary measures, and will resolutely protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises," the ministry emphasized.

On February 23, the US Treasury Department published a list of new anti-Russian sanctions targeting individuals and entities from Russia and other countries. The blacklist consists of 554 targets, including 57 individuals and 485 legal entities, as well as 12 courts. In addition to Russian entities, the sanctions affect companies from a number of countries, including China.
