Kremlin spokesman says no need to play up European Parliament’s latest resolution

"Although the sanctions are creating certain problems for us, they have proved to be not that painful," Dmitry Peskov noted

MOSCOW, November 10. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said there is no need to exaggerate the significance of the European Parliament’ latest resolution urging tougher sanctions against Russia.

He was asked to comment on the European Parliament’s latest resolution, which says that European companies are circumventing anti-Russian sanctions and calls for not seizing personal property and cars owned by Russians as it goes against the idea of the sanctions.

"I would not exaggerate this resolution’s significance for us. It is neither here nor there," he said when asked whether this resolution could be seen as a good or a bad message to Russia. "This is, so to say, certain doubt about the sanctions <…> one can see with a naked eye that many are beginning to see and understand clearly that, first of all, the sanctions are backfiring on them. Second of all, although the sanctions are creating certain problems for us, they have proved to be not that painful. Moreover, they have prompted us to build up our own potential. And they are beginning to see that more clearly and this is reflected in documents, statements and so on," Peskov said.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, the ban on entering European Union countries in cars with Russian license plates discredits the European Union more so than the idea of sanctions. This is how I would like to correct the European Parliament," he added.
