Russia seeks to strengthen presence in Asia, ambassador to Vietnam says

According to Gennady Bezdetko, Vietnam has been one of Russia’s closest and most reliable partners in the region

HANOI, February 10. /TASS/. Moscow is determined to consistently strengthen its presence in Asia, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko said in an interview with TASS dedicated to Diplomats’ Day, celebrated on February 10.

According to the envoy, the "eastern vector" of Russia’s foreign policy is deeply rooted and based on its unique experience gained in previous years. "It was formed over centuries of close interaction with our Asian neighbors. Given the steady trend in recent years of the global development center shifting to Asia, the importance of this course is only growing," the Russian ambassador stressed.

According to him, Vietnam has been one of Russia’s closest and most reliable partners in the region. For over seven decades, the two countries have maintained time-tested ties of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation. Russia and Vietnam have similar or the same positions on many pressing global and regional issues, and closely coordinate their activities on leading multilateral platforms, including the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

"Russian-Vietnamese relations are special. The two countries have accumulated a rich, and in many ways unique, experience of interaction in various fields, including defense and security, the energy sector, industrial production, agriculture, personnel training, and science and culture," Bezdetko emphasized.
