Russia, Egypt consider it necessary to restart Palestinian-Israeli talks — Lavrov

It is reported that it should be done in the interests of achieving a comprehensive settlement based on a universally recognized international legal framework

MOSCOW, January 31. /TASS/. Russia and Egypt have reiterated the need to restart talks between Palestine and Israel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday at a news conference following talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

"We are deeply concerned about the negative dynamics of the situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Both our sides reaffirmed the need to restart the Palestinian-Israeli talks as soon as possible in the interests of resolving key final status issues and achieving a comprehensive settlement based on a universally recognized international legal framework," the Russian foreign minister said.

"In this regard, the Russian side reaffirmed the need for an early resumption of the work of the quartet of international mediators and reminded that for many years we had considered it necessary to find an opportunity for this organization - the quartet of international mediators, let me remind you that these are the US, Russia, the UN and the European Union - to work in close coordination with any of the Arab states," Lavrov said.

"So far, unfortunately, there has been no progress in this area," he said.
