West waking up to the fact that Ukraine conflict incited by US, says Russian diplomat

It was noted that there were countries that did not plan to implement the Minsk Agreements

MOSCOW, January 31. /TASS/. The West is beginning to realize that it was Washington’s provocations that created the current situation in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told the Soloviev Live TV channel on Tuesday.

"It turns out that, fundamentally, the situation around Ukraine was provoked by the United States, but it’s not us who are beginning to realize it. We understood it long ago and have been trying to tell everyone about it for years. However, experts, political scientists and journalists in the West are beginning to realize it, timidly or even persistently saying that it all seems to have begun with provocative actions. And the provocative actions were clearly conducted by Washington," she pointed out.

When trying to explain the provocation, the diplomat noted that the Minsk Agreements highlighted the attempts "to falsify countries' approaches to international law," with deliberately fabricated statements becoming the basis for the international community’s decision-making process.

"There are countries, who, as it turns out, did not plan to implement anything <...> and now they said it straight, so they need to be held accountable," Zakharova added.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Thursday that the Normandy Four platform, created to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in southeastern Ukraine, was a "diplomatic imitation." Last December, ex-German Chancellor Angela Merkel in an interview with the Die Zeit newspaper divulged that the Minsk accords were "an attempt to buy Ukraine time to become stronger." According to her, "it was clear to everyone" that the conflict had been frozen and the issue had not been resolved, "but it provided precious time to Ukraine.".
