MOSCOW, October 24. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s report at the just-ended congress of the Communist Party of China opens up new opportunities for Sino-Russian cooperation, Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko told China’s CGTN broadcaster in an interview.
"Cooperation between our countries is developing dynamically in all areas. I believe that the report by the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping opens up new prospects here, which will undoubtedly be implemented," Matviyenko said.
She noted that Russia and China shared centuries-old traditions of good neighborliness.
"We highly appreciate the relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation that have developed between our countries in the new era and the unique trust and effectiveness of interaction between the leaders of our states - Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping," Matviyenko added.
She described the 20th Congress of China’s ruling party and the report of its leader as an event of "great political importance" not only for China, but for the entire international community. "Modern China is a world power, a country that has a huge visible impact on events and on history. The report produced a deep impression on me. Its main message is it orients the party and the people towards going ahead with the policy of fundamental reform that the country has followed for over forty years and which took its current shape in the last decade," she said.
Matviyenko is certain that the report leaves no doubt that the goals outlined in it are "absolutely realistic and achievable." She recalled that Xi was first elected general secretary exactly ten years ago and "during this period, the country's GDP has doubled, China has built what it describes as a moderately prosperous society, and poverty has been almost completely eliminated."
"The report emphasizes that the key role in the sustainable and dynamic development of China belongs to the strategy of comprehensive modernization. It is based on the harmony of the general patterns of development and the historical and national characteristics of the country and its modern realities. We share this approach. We consider it, of course, as right and proper," Matviyenko said.
Xi Jinping was elected general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for a third five-year term on Sunday. The voting took place at the first plenum of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
